ISNA is taking the summer off. But before we do we're having a little summer send-off in the form of a meeting-party combo! Come celebrate another year of community. Please Join Us!

IT"S A BACKWARDS AGENDA! We'll dive right in at 7PM with a shorter version of our usual meeting. THEN we'll have our get-to-know-your-neighbor activity to lead into the party.

Around 7:30 get dinner and drinks from Ole's take-out counter to enjoy while you socialize with friends and neighbors. We'll provide the chips and salsa! Plus, games and prizes!

1. Civic Engagement Manager for Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley

Our special guest Erina Colombo will introduce herself, speak for a few minutes to share some updates from Congresswoman Pressley's office, and answer your questions.

2. Accomplishments & Goals

We'll have a brief review of ISNA's activities and accomplishments over the past year, and ask for your feedback on what our future goals should be.

3. Announcements

Quick updates on upcoming Inman Square events, City meetings, and other announcements from neighbors.

4. Get-to-know-your-neighbor, and then . . . .

Inman Eats & Crafts is a celebration of everything Inman Square. It’s a street fair featuring our eclectic retailers, fabulous makers, our casual eats, and culinary treats. Inman Eats & Crafts hopes to deliver a full Inman Square experience to new visitors and residents alike. 3. Extended Business Spotlight (30 Minutes)

The Foundry Building on Rogers Street

Stephanie Couch, Executive Director of the Lemelson-MIT Program, will lead a discussion seeking resident ideas for the use of some of this space, which was recently acquired by the city and will include a minimum of 10,000 square feet dedicated to community use, i.e.:  artist studios, a stage, gallery space, etc.



4. Zoning/ Affordable Housing (45 Minutes)

The City of Cambridge is considering the creation of new zoning for a 100% Affordable Housing Overlay on top of existing zoning. This is part of an overall city-wide planning process. A lot of important conversations and decisions are happening now.


a. Update on where the city is in the process of adopting a zoning overlay.


b. Your questions answered! Invited guest, Lee Farris, will provide information and answers to the questions that have been collected from ISNA members so far.


c. To vote or not to vote? ISNA has not taken an official position on zoning, but rather has continued sharing information with the goal of educating our membership. Do we agree this is the best way to go?

ISNA March Meeting

The next ISNA general meeting will be Tuesday, March 19th from 7PM to 9PM at Olé Restaurant.

We strongly encourage as many people as possible to attend this meeting. We will be collecting your questions about new City-Wide Zoning Proposals being considered by Cambridge City Council.  If this topic is new to you, or if you've been following it for a while but still want clarification, please join us, and encourage your neighborhood friends to do so as well! No question is too small, silly, simple, or unimportant!

4. Green Line Extension in Union Square (15 minutes)
We'll discuss the the elimination of an elevator from the project plans, and the impact that it may have on Inman Square.

5. Zoning/ Affordable Housing (40 minutes)
The Envision Cambridge Housing Working Group recommended creating special new zoning for 100% Affordable Housing on top of existing zoning. This is part of Envision's overall city-wide planning process. The discussion about zoning is now in City Council, and a lot of important conversations and decisions are happening.
a. Broad overview of what has happened so far.
b. Share your questions! We will document everyone's questions and then report back at our next meeting, 3 weeks later on April 9th, with answers from an invited guest speaker. (Answers will also be made available by email for those who cannot attend.)

ISNA February Meting

We Welcome You To Join Us!!

The next meeting of the Inman Square Neighborhood Association will be Tuesday, February 12th at 7PM at Olé Restaurant. (11 Springfield Street, Cambridge.)

The Agenda Will Include . . .

- Business Spotlight, Raymond Ford, the owner of Christina's Homemade Ice Cream will join us to tell us about his business, a longtime favorite ice cream shop in Cambridge.

- We'll have a report-out from a recent ISNA zoning committee meeting regarding our response to Envision Cambridge's master planning suggestions, particularly regarding the suggested affordable housing zoning overlay, and we'll look at a possible set of recommendations for ISNA to discuss.

- We'll hear results from our anonymous address survey, as it relates to designating geographical boundaries for ISNA.

- We'll share updates on the Intersection Improvement Project and on Envision Cambridge.

- And, a very special Door Prize!

We'll be starting right at 7, so please come early if you'd like to get some food from Olé's take-out counter to enjoy during the meeting.

Cambridge business owners are invited to attend a workshop that will help them prepare for business disruptions related to construction:

Preparing Your Business for Construction Impacts
Monday, January 14th

Participants will receive one-on-one assistance from local experts who specialize in business law, commercial insurance, and financial planning. Participants should bring copies of their business contract, lease, and insurance information.

The workshop will be held in Inman Square, where area businesses will be impacted by the Inman Square Intersection Improvement project, but all Cambridge business owners are welcome to attend.

The City is developing plans to improve the intersection of Hampshire Street and Cambridge Street in Inman Square. Please join us at an upcoming meeting to learn more about the plaza design and provide input.

This meeting will focus on presentation and discussion of the landscape and urban design for the reconfigured Vellucci Plaza and presentation of public art concepts by Project Artist Mark Reigelman. We encourage community members to attend to learn more and provide feedback about the design for this important public space.

On Friday, September 21, over 75 local businesses, City departments, and nonprofit organizations will participate in the City of Cambridge’s 7th annual PARK(ing) Day celebration, turning metered parking spaces into temporary parks and activity hubs. The mission of PARK(ing) Day, an international event, is to call attention to the value of urban space and to generate thoughtful debate about how public space is created and allocated.
